Cellular Solar LPR Camera

EPIC iO’s Cellular Solar LPR Camera cuts the wires for LPR solutions. It is used with DeepInsightsTM to capture vehicle license plate information and a photo of each vehicle. It has four common applications:

Suspicious Activity

Deploy where vehicular traffic is rare and suspicious. Works with DeepInsights to deliver instant notifications and rapid incident resolution.

Forensic Search

Review LPR logs within DeepInsights to quickly identify when and where a suspicious vehicle has appeared.

Blacklists

Use with DeepInsights to track blacklisted plates for a proactive response.

Many organizations, such as Homeowners Associations and property managers need a vehicle log to help resolve incidents.

EPIC iO’s Cellular Solar LPR Camera is a self-sufficient device specially designed for reading vehicle license plates in remote places both day and night. It has the option to be powered externally or internally, and its power consumption is so low that the small solar panel accessory will keep it charged indefinitely.

The built-in SIM card gives the camera secure cellular access to DeepInsights via the cloud, and on-board storage ensures that all shots are preserved even if there is a short delay in relaying the images.

Use DeepInsights to forensically review the list of vehicle plates and their images that have been caught by the
camera, and use it to setup blacklists and special notifications. For a complete log, simply export all the plates and their detection times as one long list. The list will also include the best estimate as to the year, make and model and color of the vehicle.

Use this camera where traffic is rare - from dozens up to a few hundred vehicles per day. This will ensure that the camera can keep running day and night indefinitely. For multi-lane or high-speed vehicles use EPIC iO’s standard LPR solution, with its telephoto LPR cameras and IR lighting, high-power edge compute Universal IoT Gateway (UIG) and constant, wired power.

Cellular Solar Surveillance Camera

EPIC iO’s Cellular Solar Surveillance Camera cuts the wires for video surveillance solutions. It is used with DeepInsights™ , our AIoT platform, to capture surveillance photos of people or vehicular activity, or to monitor scenes with regular snapshots. It has four common applications:

Suspicious Activity

When deployed in locations where human and vehicular traffic is rare and suspicious, for example remote storage facilities or reservoirs, the camera will help in early notification and resolution.

Awareness

These cameras are frequently used in conjunction with heavier, hard-wired PTZ cameras. Because they are light, independently powered and connected by cellular, they are typically installed at remote locations, for example around a large reservoir or park. When they detect activity in the vicinity, they take a close-up snapshot of that activity and use DeepInsights to trigger a PTZ to zoom in to a predefined preset. The operator then tracks the subject as they move through the field of view.

Logging

Many organizations, such as Homeowners Associations, property managers and commercial offices want a log of every person or vehicle that has come or gone to help resolve incidents.

Monitoring

Use it to periodically photograph a scene, for a series of snapshot views of that location stored securely in DeepInsights. A photograph every 15 mins takes about 400KB, whereas 15 minutes of video is about 500MB, which is over a thousand times more storage and bandwidth. Use it anywhere from monitoring worksites to waste water drainage, or for storage depots of piles of deicing salt to shipping containers.

Economic and population growth in cities around the world have resulted in large increases of vehicle use, industrial activities, and energy consumption, leading to pervasive urban air pollution.

  • The World Health Organization cites that exposure to outdoor air pollution is responsible for killing approximately 4.2 million people per year, and that nine out of ten people breathe air that the WHO deems as highly polluted¹

Currently, most cities measure air pollution using a collection of large environmental monitoring stations. However, while these stations are accurate in measuring air quality data, their high cost often limits deployment and results in coverage gaps. In addition, these stations are static and may not capture isolated or localized pockets of harmful pollutants within a community.

City Eliminates Illegal Dumping With Epic IO

For seven years, a major California city has been using EPIC iO to reduce illegal dumping in specific areas of the city, especially around an abandoned military base. When the system was first implemented, the city was removing close to 500 tons of illegal garbage from its streets each year, with an annual cost of $1 million. The Challenge

EPIC iO, a technology company that provides innovative AI and IoT solutions for local governments and communities to enable smart city initiatives, was working with a single wireless carrier to provide internet access for their solutions. Robust, ultra-fast wireless capabilities are imperative, as many customer solutions are deployed outside or in locations where wired service isn’t an option.
One major challenge for EPIC iO was the overall cost per GB across all locations; they were purchasing SIMs and data directly from one provider and weren’t able to source from other ISPs. Additionally, EPIC iO had no visibility into customers’ data usage, so they were unable to monitor usage and control costs.
Some customer deployments utilized very little data, resulting in an extremely high cost per GB. Finally, EPIC iO was locked in with one carrier and needed the flexibility to bring in certain providers that had better coverage for specific customer locations.

The Solution

EPIC iO switched from their high-profile provider to become its preferred wireless partner for a number of reasons. EPIC iO was more cost-effective in purchasing data through a plan, which lowered the cost per GB. Additionally, EPIC iO offered visibility into monthly data usage, giving IntelliSite insight into how much data their clients were using to best fit their needs.
Finally, EPIC iO was able to offer cross-carrier pooling, providing customers with the best wireless connection option for their area, in addition to its primary carrier. Best of all, the implementation was quick and seamless. EPIC iO transferred over existing lines, so no new SIM cards needed to be installed.
